FlapArt by Frank and Philipp Baumann

1. Background:

This completely new and innovative form of Art is the result the symbiosis of the talents of two brothers, Frank and Philipp Baumann.

Stimulated by flap-based information panels at airports and railway stations (… which are now being replaced by LCD screens…) they were intrigued by their idea to make use of obsolete flap units to create paintings that tell a story.

It took a full year to develop the graphical and technical base for FlapArt paintings: Frank focused on graphic design aspects and Philipp on the technical feasibility. No painting is released without mutual agreement. And it carries always both signatures.

In April 2014 the first creation ¨Airtravel¨ was completed and delivered to the first FlapArt customer.

2. The FlapArt Team:

Frank Baumann (born 1963) lives in Ins with his wife and 3 children.

His education as a screen printing expert (1981-83) made him discover his love for graphic design.

To broaden knowledge and to gain experience in his profession he worked in printing companies in the USA (1985) and Australia (1987-88).

More and more passionate about photography Frank enlisted at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco USA to get a solid foundation (1992-93).  A second step was taken by studying ¨creative advanced photography¨ the CAP Photoschule Zürich (2009-10)

Since 1994 Frank is an independent photographer and graphic artist with the following exhibition track:

Philipp Baumann (born 1956) has two children and lives in Lutry with his wife.

He is a M.Sc. in Engineering and worked many years for MNCs in global management functions. He lived in Germany, UK, and South Africa and travelled extensively in all continents.

Philipp has no history in art like Frank but throughout his life art played an important role. When more time became available earlier dreams and visions were brought into reality: FlapArt was one of them. And as a guitar player Philipp has an increasing amount of stage performances on record.
